Admissions/Entry onto a Course
The Academic services Office processes your initial admission to MTU Kerry and applications/admissions to add-on Ordinary Degree and Honours Degree Courses. The office also registers students for each year of the course.

Options at Entry
Many students enter the Institute for a two year Higher Certificate level qualification and then on to the one year add-on Ordinary Degree followed by the add-on Honours Degree, which is known as the Ladder or Pathway system. Others go directly to a three-year ab-initio Ordinary Degree or to a four-year ab-initio Honours Degree.
Course Structure
Ladder and Pathway System option at entry
This system allows students the opportunity to progress to their maximum academic potential while achieving an award at each stage of their study. The course at MTU Kerry are structured in a modular framework with progression paths to enable a student to move through the Higher Certificate, Ordinary Degree, Primary/Honours Degree, Masters and PhD ladder system.
Graduates of the MTU Kerry may also apply for transfer or entry to similar courses in other Institutes of Technology.
Awards at Higher Certificate, Ordinary Degree, Honours Degree and Post-graduate level are made by the Higher Education and Training Awards Council (HETAC) and the National Qualification Authority of Ireland (NQAI).
Ab-initio option at entry
Ab-initio means "from the beginning" and this programme option allows you to enter onto either a three-year Ordinary Degree or four-year Honours Degree .
Opportunities exist to obtain Masters or Doctorate Degree through taught masters and masters through research for those with a Primary/Honours Degree at Honours Level.

EU Applications to Year 1 full-time programmes must be made through the Central Applications Office (CAO) www.cao.ie
The closing date is 1st February, or for late applications, 1st May. A change of mind can be made by 1st July. If there are vacant places available on some courses, they will be listed on the CAO website from the end of August onwards - applications may be made for those courses through the CAO in August.
If you are already attending a 3rd level Institution, and wish to apply for Year 1 of another course, you must apply via the CAO. If you decide to apply after 1st May (late deadline) you will need to download the form from the CAO website www.cao.ie, have the form stamped by your current institution, and send it back to the CAO.
Advanced Entry (Year 2, 3 or 4)
The Central Applications Office (www.cao.ie) processes applications for years 2, 3 and 4 of undergraduate courses in Irish Higher Education Institutions (HEIs). This entry route is known as Advanced Entry. Applicants must have relevant Higher or Further Education or an equivalent to be considered for the Advanced Entry route. Decisions on admission to advanced entry courses at MTU Kerry Campus, (years 2, 3 or 4), are made by MTU Kerry Campus who instructs CAO to make offers to successful candidates.

I am a Mature applicant, how do I apply for a full-time Year 1 course in MTU Kerry Campus?
A mature applicant is one who is over 23 years of age on or before 1st January of the year of application.
There is an additional assessment procedure to determine the eligibility of mature applicants for courses in MTU Kerry Campus, however, in the first instance, all mature applicants must apply by 1st February via the CAO for entry to 1st year full-time courses. It is not essential to satisfy minimum requirements. Mature students who apply after 1st February will not be assessed as mature students and will have to satisfy minimum requirements through their Leaving Certificate (or international equivalent) or FETAC points.
